Southern Telecommunication Region.

I. Southern Telecommunication Region with its Headquarters at Chennai looks after the operation and Maintenance of Long Distance Communication networks comprising new state of the art Digital Optical fibre system including Digital wideband Microwave system and small capacity UHF System. There are around 20 Earth stations(2 Main,7 Primary,1 Remote,10 MCPC VSAT) spread over all the four states including Lakshadweep island like Kavarati, Minicoy, Agati etc. The Southern Telecom Region is spread over the territorial juridiction of four states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra and karnataka telecom Circles, including Union Territory of Pondicherry.   It also plays a crucial role in media planning and assuring Service Quality of Telegraph and telephone Traffic as well as performance of leased circuits subscribers (Voice and Data). The Region is under the overall charge of a Chief General Manager, Maintenance, with Head quarters at Chennai.This is the first Maintenance Region which obtained ISO 9001:2000 certificate.

2. The Chief General Manager is assisted by seven General Managers and Deputy General Manager(OP).

2.1 General Manager (HQ)  is looking after the Network Management centre at Chennai including its Planning and upgradation. The NMC monitors live STD traffic emanating from 84 trunk automatic exchanges located in four Southern states He also handles the subject relating to Computerisation activities,MPLS etc.

2.2 General Manager MTCE, Chennai has jurisdiction of First Line Maintenace of Tamilnadu state. ISO 9001:2000 certificate was awarded to GMM,Chennai area.

2.3 General Manager (Telegraph Service/Admn) Monitors the Telegraph Traffic in all the four Southern States and assists CGMM, STR in administration of the Southern Telecom Region.

2.4 General Manager Maintenance Ernakulam has jurisdiction of First Line Maintenance of Kerala. . ISO 9001:2000 certificate was awarded to GMM,Ernakulam area

2.5 General Manager Maintenance, Bangalore has jurisdiction of First Line Maintenance of Karnataka. He also maintains kuband services across the BSNL Network. ISO 9001:2000 certificate was awarded to GMM, Bangalore area.

2.6 General Manager Maintenance, Hyderabad has jurisdiction of First Line Maintenance of Andhra Pradesh. ISO 9001:2000 certificate was awarded to GMM, Hyderabad area.

2.7 General Manager, (Finance)
looks after the financial matters of STR and assists CGMM STR in Finance matters of the Southern Telecom Region.

2.8 Deputy General Manager(OP),who looks after Technical Coordination in addition to Second line Maintenance.

Southern Telecom Region maintains a close liaison with Telephone Districts, Territorial circles as well as Project circle in ensuring orderly growth of the Network as well as maintaining highest level of performance of the various transmission systems under its charge ensuring maximum availability and reliability.
